Search Console tells you how people find you on Google. Here's what each number means, in plain words.

In Google Search Console, clicks are the times someone clicked your site from Google Search results, impressions are how many times your site appeared in results, CTR is clicks divided by impressions, and average position is the average position of your topmost result. Clicks are the closest to real visitors from Google; page views from Google Analytics count visits from every source.
The four numbers
| Metric | Google's definition | What it tells a sponsor |
|---|---|---|
| Clicks | The number of times a user clicked your site from Google Search results | Real visitors arriving from search |
| Impressions | How many times your site appeared in Search results | Visibility, not visits |
| CTR | The click count divided by the impression count | How appealing your result is |
| Average position | The average position of the topmost result from your site | How high you rank |
Clicks vs page views
Google Analytics counts views: the web pages your users saw, including repeated views of the same page, from every source (search, social, direct, referral). Search Console clicks count only arrivals from Google Search. A page's views are usually higher than its clicks from Google.
The number that matters most: the searches
Totals tell a sponsor how many; the queries tell them who. In the Performance report, filter to a page and open the Queries tab to see the searches that bring people there.

Straight answers
Are Search Console clicks the same as visitors?
They're clicks from Google Search results to your site, so they don't include visitors from other sources. Use Google Analytics views for all sources.
Why are impressions so much higher than clicks?
Impressions count every time your site appeared in results, whether or not anyone clicked.
