How much should you charge for ads on your website?

Price from your real audience, not from a guess or a competitor's media kit. Here's the formula and what it gives at different traffic levels.

Facts checked 29 Sep 2026 · by the AdSworn team

The short answer

Charge a rate per 1,000 page views, multiplied by how long the ad runs, with a sensible minimum. AdSworn's starter rates are $15 per 1,000 page views for a 4-week banner ($25 minimum) and $40 per 1,000 page views over a year for a featured post ($500 minimum). A page with 2,000 page views every 4 weeks works out at $30 for a banner or $1,040 for a year-long featured post. Then adjust: pages reached by buying searches are worth more.

The formula

Price = (page views ÷ 1,000) × your rate × how many 4-week periods it runs, never below your minimum.

FormatStarter rateRuns forMinimum
Banner ad$15 per 1,000 page views4 weeks$25
Featured post$40 per 1,000 page views12 months (13 four-week periods)$500

Why a per-1,000 rate? It's how advertisers already think (CPM means cost per thousand impressions), so your price is easy to compare, and it grows with your traffic without renegotiating.

When to charge more

  • Buying searches. A page reached by "unlimited video editing service" is read by people choosing a service. That's worth more to a sponsor than a page of trivia with the same traffic.
  • Proof. Numbers read straight from Google Search Console and Analytics justify a higher price than numbers in a PDF.
  • Exclusivity. One sponsor per format per page means the sponsor isn't sharing attention.
  • Demand. If a page books up, raise the rate for the next booking.

Common pricing mistakes

  • Pricing the whole site, not the page. Sponsors buy a specific audience; your best page shouldn't cost the same as your weakest.
  • Round numbers with no basis. "$500 a month" invites haggling. A price from real page views doesn't.
  • No minimum. Small pages still take your time to review and publish.
  • Forgetting length. A featured post that stays up for a year should be priced on a year of readers.

Price it on the readers it will reach over its whole life. AdSworn's starter rate for a year-long featured post is $40 per 1,000 page views across 13 four-week periods, with a $500 minimum.

Should I charge per click or a flat fee?

A flat fee per period is simplest for direct sponsorships and doesn't depend on the sponsor's ad. Report clicks anyway so they can judge the result.
